“I was always larger than my friends, growing up I attributed it to ‘puppy fat’, eventually naturally slimming to a healthy BMI at around 15. Around this time I got into a relationship and over the course of the four years that we were together I steadily gained weight, a stone for each year. Primarily this was because of eating socially – what was a Friday night without a Chinese takeaway? I felt increasingly uncomfortable, lethargic and would cry at the thought of going shopping, let alone getting into a changing room and actually trying to get a size 12 over my hips (I never did, the sizes were always ‘too small’). I cried when I saw the photos from my 18th birthday, I had no idea how big I’d looked on the night. Simple day to day outfits weren’t an option for me; I’d break into a cold sweat at the thought of even trying to put on a pair of jeans. I moved to London to start university in September 2013 and as my relationship came to a natural end over the next six months, I gained weight accordingly, starting my Cambridge Weight Plan journey at 14 stone.
“It was me finally ending my relationship that gave me the courage to act decisively and end this vicious cycle of losing and gaining for good, reclaiming my body as something I could actually love. I was sick of making excuses to avoid nights out, always being the one wearing tights to hide my huge legs and wasting the best years of my life shrinking to the background of photos. Cambridge Weight Plan suited me perfectly, as starting Sole Source coincided with the start of my first year exams at university. The hassle free nature of the Plan made it perfect for the lack of time I had.
I had never even owned a pair of jeans before!
“When I’d lost weight I was able to walk into a shop, pick up a pair of skinny jeans and feel confident that they would fit. That was a huge moment for me, I had never even owned a pair of jeans before! I also booked a holiday with my best friend and wore a bikini proudly, I felt amazing!
“The ways in which my life has improved can barely be put into words. I can walk into a club on a Saturday night and not feel like I’m the ‘fat friend’ anymore, I’m the happy, funny girl who is actually able to wear nice clothes now too. I’m able to talk to new people in a way that would have terrified me before. I’m more confident, laugh more and have developed a healthy relationship with food in which in no longer dictates the rules.”
The weight lost and/or time frames are particular to this slimmer. Everyone’s weight loss journey is unique to them.
