A great way to stay focussed on your weight loss journey is not only to set yourself goals but plan how you’re going to reach them too. Here are our top tips for goal setting and sticking to them!

1. Buy nice stationery

Do you remember the thrill of picking out a new pencil case, work books, buying every colour and scented pen out there when it was time to go back to school every year? Treat yourself to a beautiful new notebook or journal, pens, sticky notes, gold stars, get excited to start writing your new story.

2. Bigger picture and visualisation

Where do you see yourself one year from now? Slim and tanned, on a beach somewhere in a gorgeous bikini, cocktail in hand? Write it down. Print out pictures of your dream holiday, your ideal bikini, the cocktail you want to be sipping – revisit these pictures often, after every weigh-in or when you feel the pull of temptation trying to take you off plan. Visualising our end goals can help us stay focussed on what we want.

3. Baby steps

Think about this dream scenario, now how are you going to get yourself there? Break it down. You need to stick to your weight loss Plan, of course, but you maybe want to start exercising to tone that newly slim bod too. So what exercise are you going to do? When are you going to buy that gorgeous bikini, or book that dream holiday? Write yourself out a step by step plan of how you’re going to get there, you could even set dates, and endeavour to take a small step towards it every day (hotels researched, check. 4. Celebrate the small victories

Throughout your journey there will be small victories that you need to celebrate and record in your goal diary. First pounds off, first stone off, jeans feeling loose, walking up the stairs without getting out of breath, dropping your first dress size, taking a mega hot selfie, turning down cake. No matter how small, if you felt even the tiniest sense of achievement write it down, return to this page of ‘wins’ whenever you’re having a tough day to remind you of how far you’ve come.

5. Never ever give up

It happened, it was someone at work’s birthday, there were biscuits and cakes as far as the eye could see and you caved. A slither of birthday cake passed your lips and now you’re done. Game over. Don’t pass go. Don’t collect £200. STOP, don’t beat yourself up about it. We’re only human, mistakes happen. This is the time to make like Elsa and ‘Let it go’ – go back to your goal page and remind yourself why you’re doing this. We believe in you, you’ve got this!
