Top 5 Fitness Apps
Your phone not only holds the secret to keeping you organised, in touch with your friends and family, for tracking your water consumption and progress and the ultimate downfall to your good night’s sleep plans (see our good morning post) but it can also be the key to getting your fitness on track.
Couch to 5k
The ultimate running app for beginners. This app starts you off slowly, with run/walk intervals – you gradually up your running times and reduces the amount of walking until you find yourself running a full 5k in just 8 weeks! (It’s easy to repeat weeks until you’re ready to move on, take it at your own pace!)
Why not book yourself onto a charity 5k to raise money for a cause close to your heart? It’ll give you a goal to keep you focused on this one.
If you’re brand new to fitness we’d recommend you start by following our walking tips to build your fitness levels before you take the plunge with this one.
Already able to smash a 5k without breaking a sweat? Why not add in some suspense, fear and zombies to really get your heart racing.
This running app follows the story of a Zombie outbreak. You can run along to your regular playlist but every now again you’ll be informed that you’ve gathered some survival tools along your way (bottle of water, medical kids) – you’ll also be warned of the proximity of Zombies, and now it’s time to pick up your pace before they catch you… RUN!
You can also do this as a walker, the app tracks your pace, so it’ll let you off with a light jog or power walk to escape the grasps of the undead. This one probably isn’t for the faint hearted, or the easily spooked. I think we’ll stick to using this app before the sun goes down.
7 minute Workout Challenge
Strapped for time? We hope our #FitFor5 challenges helped you find more ways to squeeze quick workouts into your day. Just like we were pretty sure you could squeeze at least 5 minutes into your schedule for a workout, we think it’s likely you could stretch those 5 minutes to 7.
12 moves, 7 minutes, no equipment, clear instructions – what’s not to love? The beauty of this app is that you can pull your phone out of your pocket and complete the workout anywhere (though you might get some funny looks if you chose to do it in the aisles of Tesco).
30 Day Challenges
There’s a series here, 30 day push-ups, slim thighs, firm bum… The choice is yours. Every day you slowly build your strength, starting small with a few push-ups or squats and gradually adding more moves and higher reps, until you’re able to do 100 push-ups in your sleep. Well, maybe not in your sleep, but you’ll definitely be feeling pretty strong and proud of yourself for committing to the challenge.
Beyond the beauty tutorials, Primark hauls and cute cat videos there are a wealth of fitness videos at your finger tips! There’s every style of work out on there that you could possibly imagine. Our favourites are POPSUGAR Fitness, Fitness Blender, Yoga with Adriene and Blogilates. Try a video or two from each and see who you like best. They all have different styles, intensities and areas of focus, you’re sure to find the best fitness YouTube channel to suit you!
