If you only master one make-up technique it should be this. Possibly the easiest way to glam up your make-up, you could make jeans and a plain t-shirt look sexy with this look. Being able to achieve the perfect smokey eye look is an essential skill every girl should have in her arsenal. Our step-by-step guide will have you fluttering your lashes and feeling like a rock star in no time!
Apply a sheer foundation followed by concealer under the eyes, around the nose, chin and on any blemishes. Use a powder to set the foundation and reduce shine. Fill in the eyebrows with a pencil to subtly darken and create a natural even shape.
Using a dark brown pencil or crayon eyeliner, draw a thick line all the way along the top of the eyelid. Take the liner as close as possible to the eyelashes by lifting your eye lid and running the pencil right over the base of your lashes. Then use a small brush or the rubber ‘smudging’ tool (if your eyeliner has one) to soften the line. Use an upwards motion to blend. The aim is to keep the colour dense and dark close to the lashes and then blending softer onto the eyelid. Apply the same eyeliner to the lower lash line and smudge again, so the whole eye is now lined and softened.
Apply a grey shimmer shadow (dark brown would also work well) over the entire lid and into the socket. The smudged liner and shimmer seamlessly giving you your smokey eye look. Then apply a nude eyeshadow, slightly lighter than skin colour, to the brow bone to lift the eye and add contrast to the smokey lid.
Curl your eyelashes and add lots of black mascara. Then line both top and bottom waterlines (this is the skin on the inside of your lashes) with the pencil or crayon liner. You may need to pull your eye down in order to apply to your lower waterline. The easiest way to apply to the top waterline is by placing a mirror under your chin and looking down. This trick will really pop your eye colour as well as making your eyelashes look much thicker.
Use your middle finger to apply a cream blush, working outwards from the highest point of your cheek. Never bring the blusher in towards the nose as this will make you look hot rather than creating a radiant glow.
Finally, finish the look with a neutral liner and lipstick, using a lip brush to blend the two products.
