Wait a second. Is that sunshine I see? It’s time to reach for your sunnies and get ready for a wardrobe overhaul. We couldn’t be any happier to ditch our winter warmers and upgrade for summer. But the burning question is, what do we buy? Here’s our run down of the top six trends to take you through summer in style.
The bigger the better people. Think graphic, chunky, statement stripes that make you go ‘wow’. Mulberry, Proenza Schouler, Balmain, Nina Ricci, Sonia Rykiel and Victoria Beckham all showcased the linear look and we’re hooked. Skip horizontal styles and go for super flattering vertical stripes that will streamline your silhouette.
Watch out, minimalism just got a serious upgrade. The pieces are still less-is-more but subtle details that make them look like the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen – a paperbag waistline, cool belting or a cut that is so fluid it just skims every curve. This is summer’s most wearable trend.
Yep, our favourite happy colour is officially the shade to be seen in this summer. Yay. Be it bold canary yellow, lemon or more zingy almost neon tones, get it on for an instant fashion hit. Play with shades to find the one that suits your skin tone best.
Yes, fashion fans, we’re going to party like it’s 1980. So grab some sequins, a bit of PVC and add some shiny fabric because partywear this season is all about this decade. Jewellery has also had a Dallas style makeover with lots of statement bling on show. Hot style tip, don’t wear it all at once – subtle nod towards the trend is enough.
Top to toe florals made their way down the catwalks of Chloe, Erdem, Dolce & Gabbana, Victoria Beckham and Balenciaga. The look has a strong 70’s vibe about it and the high street is following suit with Zara, Topshop and H&M all stocking some serious flower power. If you’re arm conscious look out for the split sleeve or off the shoulder dresses that are a big part of this trend, allowing you to still flash some flesh but in a subtle way.
Ruffle It Up
Fun, flirty and feminine – this trend has a heavy dose of girl power. Ruffle tops, jackets, trousers and dressed danced their way down the Spring Summer catwalks. Erdem, Mulberry, Marc Jacobs, Dries Van Noten – the ruffle roll call goes on. But sometimes adding volume to an outfit scares people. But worn the right way, ruffles are actually our friend. Use them to balance out your body shape. For instance adding a ruffle to the bottom of a trouser leg will give the illusion of a slimmer leg.
