“I was always quite slim and fit and used to play golf most days after work. Then, seven years ago, I met my fiancée and that all changed. Within a year of being together she was pregnant with our first son. I think I had more pregnancy cravings than she did and, subsequently, when my son was born I had gained two-and-a-half stone, taking me from 15-and-a-half to 17-and-a-half stone. Within six months she was pregnant again and, clearly not having learnt my lesson previously, I began eating for two for a second time. When my second son was born I had gained another two-and-a-half stone. I became very depressed within myself. I feared I was a rubbish partner and, heartbreakingly for me, a rubbish dad.
“There were many embarrassing things that happened during my ‘fat’ days but the one that sticks in my mind and gave me the kick I needed to change was a wardrobe disaster. I lived in two pairs of jeans as they were the only things that fitted. As I was getting dressed for a family party I broke the zip on my only clean pair and there wasn’t any way of rescuing them. I had a big argument with my partner and threw a tantrum and said that I wasn’t going. She told me not to be so ridiculous and we swung past a shop on the way to the party to replace the jeans. I sat in the car in my top and boxer shorts and she ran in to buy me something to wear. She came back out with jeans in the biggest available size, a huge 46-inch waist, and I struggled into them in the front of the car. They wouldn’t do up and were too tight.
I had to shift the baby weight
“My four-year-old son looked at me and said, ‘It’s ok if you’re too fat Daddy. You look nice in your pants!’ I was mortified. I had to wear them with my top pulled over the button that was undone and I spent the whole day dying to get home and change.
“The following week I decided enough was enough. I turned to Cambridge Weight Plan and knowing I’d see quick results had won me over. I met my Consultant Mitch and for the first time ever he made me believe that I could change and could actually get to my target weight. The first four days were tough but after that it was plain sailing for me. I stuck to the Plan 100% and the results were amazing. I really enjoyed re-educating myself about food and learning about what my body needed as I worked my way up through the Steps.
“21 weeks later I stepped on the scales and had reached my target weight, dropping from 22 stone to 13st 7lb. I have never been happier. I’m the partner and father that I always wanted to be and that my family deserve. I have such belief and faith in the diet that I recently quit my day job and became a full time Independent Cambridge Consultant. I love it. I’ve never had such job satisfaction and the fact that I get to help people every day to reach their own weight loss goals is amazing. I wouldn’t change my job for the world.”
