Your morning usually sets you and your mood up for the rest of the day. If you’re not waking up and starting the day feeling good, or ready to smash your goals and stay focused then you need our awesome guide on how to start your day feeling happy, positive and ready to take on the world! Let’s get up and get going!
The #1 secret to a happy morning… starts the night before. The biggest secret to waking up easier is getting a good night’s sleep! Make sure you’re getting your 6-8 hours, try banning phones, TVs, tablets etc in the hour before you intend to go to bed, they can overstimulate your brain and make it hard to switch off and get a good night’s sleep.
Stop hitting snooze… those ‘just 10 more minutes’ moments are actually making it harder for you to wake up. Instead of giving you those extra minutes that you think would make waking easier, they actually reset your sleep cycle and confuse your body (here’s the science). To put a stop to your snoozing habits try putting your alarm out of reach so that you have to get yourself out of bed to turn it off, that way you’re less likely to try and sneak in those extra few minutes of shut eye.
Get hydrated… In our post about the importance of staying hydrated we explain that having a glass of water first thing is so good for your system. It’s basically a wake-up call for your insides, getting them ready and working with you in the morning.
Turn up the tunes… find a playlist that puts you in a great mood, it doesn’t matter what genre – if Death Metal is your thing, turn up (and send our apologies to your neighbours!). Here at Shake It Up HQ we love nothing more than some 90s nostalgic pop to help get us out the door with smiles on our faces and a spring in our steps.
Plan a delicious breakfast… nothing gets us out of bed quicker than the thought of cooking up something exciting in the morning. Look out for some tasty breakfast ideas coming your way next week!
Feel grateful… practicing gratitude is big news this year. It’s one of those things that’s forever cropping up in ‘things all successful people do’ type interviews across the Blogosphere, writing down 3 things every morning that make you happy or that you’re grateful for helps ignite your PMA for the day. Apps like Five Minute Journal send a reminder to your phone every morning to remind you to record your grateful thoughts (you could list anything, from a sunny sky to the Consultant who’s getting you through your weight loss journey).
We hope these tips help you start your day in a good mood… What are your favourite early morning feel-good routines?
