“I had my son when I was 17, so was a young mum but the weight kept piling on. I tried a few other diets but nothing seemed to work. Four years ago I had almost come to accept that being overweight was the norm. I had always struggled with my weight, was 17 stone and had virtually given up hope of shedding the pounds.

“But after my sister had some success with Cambridge Weight Plan, I was inspired to give the Plan a go myself. I jumped on the bandwagon as I did not want to become known as the ‘fat sister’. I managed to lose five stone in less than five months and was helped by the encouragement of my Consultant Liza Harding-Buck. The weight loss had a big effect on my confidence.

“At the time I had three jobs and was struggling financially and Liza told me I had the potential to be a Cambridge Consultant, so she suggested I became one. I said a flat ‘no’ at first because I was so busy. But after chatting about it in more detail with Liza I decided to give it a go. I was working as a teaching assistant, in a pub and as a debt collector, so I fitted in seeing my clients around the three jobs.

“My business did well and it allowed me to start thinking about giving up my other roles. I stopped the debt collecting first and in June 2014 came a big moment. It was my son’s 11th birthday. He wanted an Xbox and a party and it was the first time in 11 years that I was able to afford to give him what he wanted. It was a very emotional moment. It showed me that this business could provide us with a lot of things we had not had before.

“I then quit working at the pub and, finally, in June 2015 I handed in my notice as a teaching assistant after eight years in the job to become a full-time Consultant: a tough decision that was driven by my desire to be my own boss and grow my business.

“Things have worked out really well. I work around 30 hours a week but I work when I want to work as long as it fits in with my clients and my family life. The flexibility is so important and financially we can afford to do things as a family we couldn’t do before. We recently came back from a family holiday in Cyprus and we’re hoping to go away again this year.

“I am the happiest I have ever been with both my body and new outlook on life. I have learnt new habits and routines and have successfully maintained my new weight. I am finally that fit and active woman I had dreamt of being for so many years.”
