Throughout your weight-loss journey you may feel like a whole new person is emerging and your confidence starts to shine through without you even trying. But some of you may feel like you’re taking a little longer to catch up. This is fine, when your body is changing so quickly it can take your head a little while to realise that you’ve changed and you’re ready to take on the world.

The saying that goes ‘fake it till you make it’ isn’t such a bad one in this situation, often the more confident you act the more confident you become. Little things like posture, positive thinking and simply plastering a smile on your face can make the world of difference to how you feel. So, follow our top confidence tips and get ready to shine…

Smile

It’s small, it’s simple and apparently it requires less effort than a frown. This tip is too easy, just smile, on your way to work smile at passers-by, smile at cashiers in shops and smile at yourself in the mirror every time you pass one. Not only will your happy, smiley face brighten someone’s day but studies show that smiling (whether forced or natural) releases endorphins, making you feel happier and more relaxed!

If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

Give yourself credit

At the end of every day write out something that you did really well. ‘I stuck to plan 100% today, go me!’ or ‘I helped someone out today and it felt really good’, maybe even ‘I went out for a walk at lunch today, I’m feeling fitter already’.

Focusing on the positives will push the negative thoughts out of your head. Allowing yourself to think only about the things you do well will definitely boost your confidence. Our Goal Setting post has more tips and tricks on how to focus on the positives to reach your goals.

Body language

The way you hold yourself can have a big impact on how you feel and how others perceive you. Standing as tall and as straight as you can will make you appear more confident to others, the more you do this the more your mind will start believe it too. Combine this with your smiling practice and you’ll be on your way to being an unstoppable confidence powerhouse.

Dress the part

You’re never going to feel confident if your jeans are always falling down or you’re hiding yourself under layers of black clothing. It’s hard to trick your head into confidence mode if you’re looking in the mirror and not feeling at your sassiest. Have a read of our tips and tricks on what to wear when you’re losing weight, so you can look the business without breaking the bank.

Challenge yourself

Step out of your comfort zone! The best way to feel more confident is to try new things, things that scare you or give you butterflies. Sign up for a 5k race, go on a date, speak to someone new at a party, go to a networking event and make some new contacts, skydive for charity. If it is something that makes you think ‘I’m not brave enough’ then you need to sign up to do that thing immediately. Just think about that feeling of accomplishment you’ll have when you cross the finish line or you’ve made a fabulous new friend. Confidence is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets.

We hope these tips help you feel more confident!
