“Both my boys are autistic and I had no time or energy to think of myself or my needs, let alone what I looked like. It was during this difficult time I discovered my – now ex – husband had been having several affairs. I was devastated. Why did he do it? His reason: I was unattractive.
“I had wanted to lose weight for a while and heard about Cambridge Weight Plan. The day of my first consultation was a hot June day. I dug out a pair of trousers and put them on. At work that day I was having a meeting and as I stood to leave, a colleague came in looking for my manager. She hadn’t seen her as I had eclipsed her! We laughed it off, but I noted it: strike one.
“As I was driving home, I found that the waistband of my trousers was becoming increasingly uncomfortable, and I had to undo the button. When I got out, I couldn’t do it up again. Strike two.
“I met with Julia with these incidents fresh in my mind. After my appointment, I took the boys to the park. They played on the zip wire and wanted me to join them. I climbed on and my weight brought the seat of the zip wire so close to the ground that my bottom was dragged across the grass . . . much to the boys’ amusement! Strike three.
“I’ve found the Plan so easy. Thank you Julia and CWP for giving me the opportunity to join in with the mum’s race on school sports day, and for climbing on the zip wire and having a clear distance between my bottom and the grass! Yay me!”

“In October 2009, I woke up to hear the noise of my son, Dean, having a seizure. I called an ambulance and he was taken to intensive care at Alder Hey Hospital. Three days later they turned off his ventilator. To lose your child really is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Dean was the best son, my buddy, my little rock. I miss him every minute of every day. I treasure the 12 years I had with him.
“I cannot remember the next year of my life. I was so sad. My weight escalated. I was eating and drinking way too much but didn’t care. Lucy, my daughter, who suffers from Dravet Syndrome, was sad too and needed me.
“My marriage had split up years before and my boyfriend helped me through this dreadful time. A few years later, he proposed to me while we were on holiday. Two days later I woke up and he was dead of an aneurysm.
“Since then, my life has been a rollercoaster of emotions and my weight has gone up and down but, over time, I realised I needed to keep myself fit and healthy for Lucy.
“In May this year, I watched a BBC TV programme about very low calorie diets. I looked into it and discovered Cambridge Weight Plan. The first week was hard but the rest has been fairly straightforward. I am happy I found Cambridge Weight Plan as it is helping me on my road to recovery and I am now in a position to stay fit and healthy for my daughter.”

“I was the mum who was too tired to take her kids out. Too scared to play football with her son. I was too ashamed of what I had become to be close to my wife, so our relationship suffered. I lived in ugly, elasticated trousers and baggy tops so felt unlovable anyway. My three year old would ask why my tummy was so big and why I couldn’t join them on any activities. I was useless to them.
“Rewind 12 months to early September 2017. I had spent three weeks sleeping on a floor beside my mum’s hospital bed. She was dying of pancreatic cancer – a horrific disease.
“In the weeks before my mum died, my dad told me he was worried I would be dead next. It was a ‘big’ thing to my parents, so I promised my dying mum I would lose the weight and get healthy. I’m not sure if she heard me, but a promise is a promise and I had to keep it.
“Fast forward to the present day. After nine months on Cambridge Weight Plan, I’ve lost nine stone and gone from walking with a stick to running 5km every other day!
“My kids and wife are so happy. My dad and sister feel so relieved – they say they feel like they don’t need to worry about me any more. I have gone from living with no hope… to getting my life and family back.”
