There’s been a craze for a while about writing to your younger self, but what about talking to your future self? What do you want future you to reflect on and what encouragement do you want to give them? What would you like to say to future you if they ever have a day they struggle on plan?
Doing this exercise will really help you get in touch with your goals and motivations, so if you’re keeping a goal journal that’s the ideal place to write the letter down down. Or why not write on a separate sheet and put it into your treat box, another reminder of why you’re on this journey.
So to start by writing down ‘Dear Future Me’…
Now tell yourself why you’ve started on your journey. What was the moment that made you start? reflect on those feelings and remind future you why you started on this road.
Think about all the things you picture your future self doing, things that you’re not able to do now, ask them how exciting it is. How enjoyable is clothes shopping? Is it great having so much energy to keep up with the kids?
Then, congratulate your future self because they’ve made it! What could you say to future you that would make them feel proud of how far they have come?
Sign off with ‘I knew you could do it. Love, Me.’
We hope when future you reads the letter they know how well they’ve done, how proud past you is. We hope that they are really grateful for past you too, because past you was the one who made the decision to start this journey, to change their lives, so remember how amazing are you right now too.
